When I was a young girl, I would peruse the many thrift shops(back then our code word for thrift shops was "Gimbels") around Philadelphia with my mother and sisters hoping to find either a slightly used toy or game or even a cool jacket. This was during a time when going to thrift shops was not the "en vogue" thing to do, in fact, for some it probably meant that you were struggling. However, I never looked at myself as a charity case. I longed for those outings because I knew that I would find some form of funk-da-fied! piece that I could accessorize and call my own. I really became nothing short of a bargain-basement fashonista pairing items from "Gimbels" with the latest fashions. No one ever knew my secret because to me, clothes were just clothes and it didn't matter what the price was or if someone previously owned them. It is quite funny to know that Thrift/consignment/vintage stores are now the rage. Especially since the average citizen is very concerned about the economy and stretching a dollar. So my advice to you is to embrace and take advantage of these wonderful options -just take a look through your local yellow pages for such shops in your area or even google what you may have been looking for all of your life- a cheap yet chic alternative. Remember one man's trash is another's treasure!
Stay Chic!
